Improved Cyprus public transport system from June 2010
Cyprus is expecting great improvement in the public transport system from summer 2010. Nearly 45 Million Euro is to be invested in order to upgrade the Cyprus bus network. These measures are taken in order to lessen the traffic congestion as well as to facilitate traveling of the people between towns and within city centre`s. Communications Minister Nicos Nicolaides stated: "We`ve designated June 1, 2010 as a landmark for public transport in Cyprus... a new era...with new routes and extended hours". Over 60% of the bus drivers are supporting the new scheme and the rest are welcomed to come aboard. However, those who do not want to take part in the scheme, will receive compensations according to legislation, said the Minister
